{"id":15907,"date":"2020-12-09T19:26:54","date_gmt":"2020-12-09T19:26:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/?page_id=15907"},"modified":"2026-02-23T11:42:19","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T11:42:19","slug":"transition-bollington","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/?page_id=15907","title":{"rendered":"Transition Bollington"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About us<\/h2>\n<p>Transition Bollington is about resident-led change; it\u2019s an apolitical grassroots voluntary group of local residents aiming to inspire, encourage, connect and support our community self-organising around the <a href=\"transitionnetwork.org\">transitionnetwork.org<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14472\" src=\"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/external.png\" title=\"Going to an external website!\" width=\"10\" height=\"10\"> model.<\/p>\n<p>We look to create initiatives that encourage people, businesses, schools, neighbourhoods, groups and organisations to enable positive social change, with a drive towards a more sustainable way of living, such as reducing polluting emissions and the dependence on fossil fuels and single-use plastic, and building community and economic resilience to environmental change.<\/p>\n<p>Bollington is already an exciting place to live, with a vibrant arts and cultural scene, a rich industrial heritage and waterways network. Transition Bollington does not aim to re-invent the wide range of activities that already take place in the town, rather it\u2019s about connecting our community for the common good.<\/p>\n<h2>Our Projects<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/MugLibrary.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-16667 size-medium\" title=\"Mug library\" src=\"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/MugLibrary-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Mug library\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/MugLibrary-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/MugLibrary-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/MugLibrary.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>ACTION ON PLASTICS AND WASTE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our founding campaign to reduce single-use plastic across Bollington and implement waste\/recycling solutions. Projects include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Terracycle deposit bins for \u2018non-recyclables\u2019 to be recycled;<\/li>\n<li>Bolly Mug Library \u2013 providing proper mugs to events instead of single-use plastic\/ disposables (picture right);<\/li>\n<li>#Refill Bollington \u2013 promoting the use of reusable water bottles instead of disposable plastic ones by encouraging local caf\u00e9s to register on the national Refill map online (downloadable);<\/li>\n<li>SAS Surfers Against Sewage &#8220;Kitemarked&#8221; Plastics-Free Town status: this initiative has sparked the alliance network Plastic Free Bollington, which Transition Bollington is in turn a part of.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/2020-03-07_Group.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16664 size-medium alignleft\" title=\"Community planting at the Civic hall\" src=\"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/2020-03-07_Group-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Community planting at the Civic hall\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/2020-03-07_Group-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/2020-03-07_Group-768x575.jpg 768w, https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/2020-03-07_Group.jpg 893w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>COMMUNITY PLANTING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have created fruit guilds, a herb hedge and edible planting initiatives in Bollington, all on Town Council land and providing food for the community (picture left).<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Rec03.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-16665 size-medium\" title=\"Tree planting\" src=\"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Rec03-225x300.png\" alt=\"Tree planting\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\"><\/a> 3000 Trees<\/h3>\n<p>Our \u201c3000 Trees\u201d Project aims for a minimum of 3,000 trees to be planted in the area (picture right) \u2013 that\u2019s one per house, where will you plant a tree? If the tree has edible leaves\/ fruits\/ nuts then it will benefit you too.
