Peter was appointed as Bollington\u2019s Musical Director (MD) in August 2001; he already had considerable conducting experience with Marple \u201cB\u201d<\/a>, Stalybridge<\/a>, Strabane<\/a> and Chapel-en-le-Frith<\/a> bands as well as an illustrious career as a baritone player of the very highest calibre \u2013 including 13 years with the prestigious Black Dyke Mills Band<\/a>, with whom he won three National, three British Open and eight European titles!<\/p>\n

His first outing with Bollington was the Manchester District Contest in November 2001, where the band were placed 2nd<\/sup>. This was followed by the NW Regional Championships at Blackpool in 2002 when they were placed a creditable 6th<\/sup>, but the following year the band came 1st<\/sup> and qualified for the National Finals in Dundee, where they missed out on being declared National Champions by a single point.<\/p>\n

In all Peter has taken Bollington to four National Championships as well as a thoroughly deserved promotion to the Championship Section for three years, competing against the likes of Foden’s<\/a> and the Fairey Brass Band<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Besides the North West Championships the band entered various other contests under Peter\u2019s baton, and in particular had great success at the Buxton Festival of Brass: in 2012 Bollington made a clean sweep of all the prizes on offer!<\/p>\n

But contesting has only been part of the story; preparing the band for at least half a dozen concerts each year \u2013 including the Patrons\u2019 concerts, the Christmas concerts (who will ever forget Die Schneewalzer<\/em> or the 12 Days of Christmas<\/em>??) and a number of Bollington Festival concerts, etc. etc., has required real commitment and dedication, and Peter has given freely of both to our band. We wish him all the very best for his retirement.<\/p>\n
