Disambiguation<\/strong> \u2013 There was more than one Unwin family, at least two possibly more. Two of these families were very active in Bollington and we know quite a bit about both. The only significant feature to differentiate between them was their religion \u2013 one family was Catholic<\/a>, the other Anglican. Samuel Unwin ()<\/h2>\n

Samuel UNWIN had a grocery shop<\/strong> at No. 5 Chancery Lane<\/a>, Kerridge, just round the corner from the Red Lion inn<\/a> which the family also owned at one time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sam & Emily UNWIN for some time between c.1923 and c.1939 kept the corner shop grocery store at 1 Moss Brow<\/a>, Bollington Cross<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Various members of the Unwin family owned a significant estate of properties across Bollington and elsewhere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

The document (left) shows the division of properties after the deaths of Mary Ann UNWIN<\/a> in 1936, her son Sam UNWIN<\/a> in 1947, and her son Stanley UNWIN<\/a> in 1958. The second page includes a list of properties from which the author, F P UNWIN, collected rents in 1946\/7 on behalf of his father, Fred Ridgway UNWIN<\/a>. The yellow highlights are on the original document, reason unknown. The yellow sticker has been added in modern times, it’s not known who by, or the veracity of the information contained therein.
