The picture shows 61 Water Street, the winner of the Cottage category in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/?page_id=30\">Civic Society<\/a>&#8216;s&nbsp;Bollington in Bloom&nbsp;2005 and again in 2006.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"water\"><\/a>Water Street Centre<\/h3>\n<p>The biggest building in the street is&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/bollingtoninitiativetrust.org\/\">Water Street Centre<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-163\" src=\"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/external.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"10\" height=\"10\">, on the corner of John Street, which was Bollington&#8217;s secondary school up to 1965. It has been substantially under used since then but has been taken over by <a href=\"http:\/\/bollingtoninitiativetrust.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bollington Initiative Trust (BIT)<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-163\" src=\"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/external.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"10\" height=\"10\">&nbsp;for community purposes.<\/p>\n<h3>Water Street shops<a name=\"shops\"><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>In &#8216;the good old days&#8217; there used to be several&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/?page_id=4120#water\">shops in Water Street<\/a>&nbsp;and these can often be identified by the frontages. A cottage to the right of the school was once a beer house &#8211; the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/?page_id=850\">Lord Nelson<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The war Memorial Gardens are located at the aqueduct end of the street. The first of the cottages here used to be a sweets and tobacco shop and still carries an enamel advertising panel above the door. Numbers 1, 5, 7, 8-56, 11-35, 35A-49, 53-75, 75A and 77A, and 77-81 are subject to Article 4 Direction.<\/p>\n<h4>Conservation improvements<a name=\"improvements\"><\/a><\/h4>\n<p>In 2007 considerable work was undertaken by the <a href=\"https:\/\/happyvalley.org.uk\/?page_id=1313\">Historic Triangle project<\/a> to improve Water Street.
