Bollington <\/a>Borrowers<\/h2>\n

Bollington Borrowers is a community group dedicated to resource sharing and the reduction of waste. They keep a stock of donated useful items, especially items that one may require only occasionally. To become a borrower you need to become a member and then pay a small fee (you decide how much the borrow is worth to you) to borrow your chosen item. Bollington Civic Society<\/a> maintains a collection of thousands of photographs of the town and its people dating back to the 1860s. <\/em><\/p>\n

The pictures can be viewed at the \u00a0Discovery\u00a0Centre<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>. The Civic Society have maintained an online facility for very many years, however, the march of internet technology has rendered our software to be non-functioning. The Civic Society is trying to find finance to obtain modern software and implement our extensive library on that.<\/p>\n

Copies of pictures are available to the public on request for \u00a35 (approx A5 size) or \u00a310 each (approx 8″x10″, A4 size) at the \u00a0Discovery\u00a0Centre<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Membership is free and open to everyone! The Friends are the community organisation that ensures the Recreation Ground is kept in good condition, properly maintained and qualifies for a Green Flag award every year! The Friends co-ordinate with Cheshire East Council officers to manage the Recreation Ground. Occasional meetings. Please call the contact number to be included in the notification list.<\/em><\/p>\n

SciBar is literally science in a bar. Following the success of a SciBar during the Bollington Festival 2009 there was interest in a regular meeting. It now generally happens once a month, on the second Monday of the month (we take a break in August and December), and starts at 6.30pm (but you need to be there much earlier to get a seat!).<\/p>\n

With the closure of the Vale Inn<\/strong> at short notice in January 2026 we are looking into suitable venues for future talks. Please check the SciBar website<\/a> for updated info. SciBar meetings are discussions about science that take place while the audience enjoy a drink. If you have a general interest in science (or one of the topics happens to grab your attention), then it\u2019s a good place to learn a bit more, or to ask speakers the questions you\u2019ve always wanted answered. You don\u2019t have to know about science \u2013 just turn up with an inquiring mind.<\/em><\/p>\n

At a SciBar, a researcher or expert \u2013 often from a local university \u2013 delivers a short introduction to their work, the background to it and where it is going. This isn\u2019t a lecture but rather a way to get the ball rolling for a discussion. Once the introduction is over the floor is opened to general questions and discussion. Any level of question is welcome. SciBar is open to anyone, you don\u2019t have to be a member and there\u2019s no charge. SciBar is run entirely by volunteers! New volunteers are always welcome!

This group puts together the wonderful well dressing boards that we see placed around the town each summer. They also organise the well dressing ceremony performed at the Greg Fountain, Bollington Cross in July to open the well dressing week. KRIV – Kerridge Ridge and Ingersley Vale volunteers came into being in 2006 when the group of enthusiastic volunteers and a significant grant from the National Lottery to improve the ridge and vale, cut or lay the hedges, repair the stone walls, remove overgrown or dangerous trees, and re-furbish the many footpaths all the way to Rainow. They made such a wonderful job of this, and enjoyed themselves so much, they just kept going! Their work is highly visible and very much appreciated by so many walkers over the years. Today, they no longer restrict themselves to our ridge and vale, but reach out into the near hills to the east and Styal mill in the west. In the winter they can often be found planting tree saplings and hedging whips – there’s always something interesting to do!<\/p>\n

We are a group of enthusiastic amateur genealogists who meet at the Arts Centre, usually on the first Thursday of every month, between 10:30am and about 12:30pm, to share our successes and encourage each other with our research. We operate on a “drop-in” basis so that members can come and go at any time during the morning, and we would be delighted to welcome new members, whether beginners or the more experienced family historian. <\/em><\/p>\n

For those researching the history of Bollington families, don’t forget to visit the \u00a0Discovery\u00a0Centre<\/a>\u00a0<\/span> <\/em>where you will find the picture database available on PCs, and now online<\/a> – ideal for finding pictures and information about those from the past!
