Notes for Alfred Creswick OLIVER Member* of the firm of Thomas Oliver & Son Ltd. from 1879 to 1887 when
he went to
Oxford. He was also a member from 1998 when the company was re-formed.
In 1890 he
took Holy Orders, and after serving in four curacies at Pilling and
Middleton in
Lancashire, Wirksworth in Derbyshire, and Eccleshall in Staffordshire,
became Vicar
of Barlaston in Staffordshire in 1902. In 1918 he became Rector of
Fretherne,
Gloucestershire.
* As a member he owned shares in the company but took no part in its
management. Although the available evidence shows that he was a member
until 1887, and again from 1898,
it is highly likely that he was a member continuously from 1879, as
were other
members of the Oliver family. [102]
In 1940 he wrote the 'History
of (Thomas Oliver & Sons Ltd) during 150 Years'. It was hand-written and probably never copied to the family
or
published. In which case we are very lucky to have found this one and
only
copy! [102]
