Born at Heywood Hall, Pedley Hill, Adlington, a one room cottage, 20ft x 10ft made of wattle & daub, reputedly dating from c.1150. Later moved to 14 Cocksheadhey Road, Bollington.
At age of 7½ she walked from home in Adlington to Lowerhouse Mill along the canal towpath (more than 2 miles) to work half days.
Later made and sold oatcakes in Bollington and Pott Shrigley.
In 1908 moved into the Church House Inn, Church Street, Bollington
