Notes for Jane GASKELL

A tragic life. Two of her four children died in childhood and her young husband died just weeks after the second child. Jane was left with two children to raise and would have had to move from the vicarage as well.

Notes for Revd George PALMER MA

He was a very well loved incumbent. At his death a memorial window was installed in his memory with a Latin script which may be translated as 'This window was erected by public subscription in memory of the Reverend George Palmer M.A. Minister of this church for thirteen years, who died March 2nd 1852.' Note that his grave records his death as being on 28th February 1852!

The Revd Palmer's house was burgled and a timepiece was taken. The miscreants got 15 years transportation! See the web page for the full story.
