Notes for Pte Arthur TINSLEY

On 11 April 1913, aged about 23, he emigrated, sailed from Liverpool to Halifax, Nova Scotia on RMS Virginian, to Canada together with other Bollingtonians. Although a Canadian by the time of his death, Arthur is remembered on the memorials at Bollington, Kerridge, and St Oswald's, as well as his parents' grave at St John's. [73],[122]

Arthur enlisted on 10th January 1916 at Fort William, Ontario, Canada, 198768 24th Bn Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regt). [73]

Family notes for Pte Arthur TINSLEY and May CLAYTON

May died later in 1912. In early 1913 Arthur emigrated to Canada. While the early death of his wife may have contributed to his idea to emigrate, there was a lot of unemployment in Bollington at that time and many Bollingtonians emigrated as a way of finding work. [Webmaster]
