Notes for Martin SWINDELLS I

Established the Swindells cotton milling industry in Bollington by renting Ingersley Clough mill in partnership with Thomas Fernley. Later rented or owned several of the larger mills in the town, employing over 2,000 people. Went on to build Clarence mill in 1830 in partnership with Joseph Brooke. [13]

His achievements are recorded on his grave with the words \'His ability and energy of character under the blessing of God mainly contributed to the increase and prosperity of this village.\' [50]
