Notes for Martin SWINDELLS I Established the Swindells cotton milling industry in Bollington by
renting Ingersley Clough
mill in partnership with Thomas Fernley. Later
rented or owned several of the larger mills in the town, employing over
2,000 people. Went on to build Clarence mill in 1830 in partnership with Joseph
Brooke. [13]
His achievements are recorded on his grave with the words \'His ability
and energy of character under the blessing of God mainly contributed to
the increase and prosperity of this village.\' [50]
