Notes for Hannah SHEPLEY

Probably from Chapel-en-le-Frith, Martin's diary alludes.

Hannah, [Martin's] wife, was a beautiful old lady with bright brown eyes; she dressed in a black satin dress with a large white muslin handkerchief folded over her breast, and a large white mob-cap. She was exceedingly religious and always sat in the arm chair on the right hand side of the Pott Hall dining room with her Bible and Hymn book resting in a small bracket beside her. [13]

Notes for Martin SWINDELLS I

Established the Swindells cotton milling industry in Bollington by renting Ingersley Clough mill in partnership with Thomas Fernley. Later rented or owned several of the larger mills in the town, employing over 2,000 people. Went on to build Clarence mill in 1830 in partnership with Joseph Brooke. [13]

His achievements are recorded on his grave with the words \'His ability and energy of character under the blessing of God mainly contributed to the increase and prosperity of this village.\' [50]
