Notes for Stephen SHELDON

His Will is available - see it here: Happy Valley: Sheldon family history. His Will is dated 27 November 1844 and we know he died in the same year. [64]

Stephen Sheldon was a builder, and was in partnership with Edward Bradley (Slater) and Thomas Beard (Joiner), building cottages in Queen Street, Gnat Hole (Adlington Road), and elsewhere in Bollington. Thomas Beard married Elizabeth Sheldon, daughter of Stephen Sheldon. [64]

Family notes for Nancy PERCIVAL and Stephen SHELDON

In the absence of most birth dates, the children are listed in the order they are given in their father′s Will. Notice that three of Stephen & Nancy′s daughters predeceased Stephen. Nancy is not mentioned in Stephen′s Will so it is probable that she, too, predeceased him. [Webmaster]

It is clear from the marriage register entry that Nancy was illiterate, she registered her mark, and while Stephen may have been literate, he was unable to spell or recognise that his betrothed\'s maiden name was oddly recorded as Percifall. Quite logical really! [Webmaster]
