1892: Joined Volunteer Rifles; rose to major by outbreak of WWI.
Named on the memorials at Bollington, Kerridge, and at the old St Gregory's schoolhouse, Chapel Street, Bollington [73]

The Discovery Centre has received anonymously an enormous collection of documents and small items all relating to Geoffrey Hillier SWINDELLS. We have no idea who sent it, but, if you are reading this, we would so much like to hear from you so that we can thank you personally for this historically very valuable collection.

The documents include large numbers of letters, to his father and mother, his wife, his sister, telegrams, documents relating to his war service, diaries, newspaper and magazine reports, condolence letters to his wife after he was killed, and many photographs. [163]
