Alternatives: There are Post Offices in Tytherington shopping centre (opposite Shell FS), also on Hurdsfield Road (on the left side going up, just past Hulley Road junction), and inside TJ Jones (was WH Smith) in Mill Street, Macclesfield.
History
This was the last Post Office in Bollington. There used to be at least two, even three at one time. Post offices have been located in many different buildings over the years. While we don’t know when the first one opened, we have pictures showing their existence back to the late 19thC. One of our post offices, in Palmerston Street, was even subjected to an armed robbery during which the Post Mistress, dear Mrs Roberts, was shot at and subsequently lost a leg (1981).
Other Bollington post offices have been located in a cottage in Bollington Road, the corner shop in Ovenhouse Lane, two locations almost opposite each other by Pool Bank in Palmerston Street. I’m sure there must be others!
