The pub is set in this picturesque village surrounded by local history. The D&P, as it is known to its friends, was built c.1800 and has been kept in its original condition. In winter the comfort is maintained with a good fire in the grate and plenty of pub games most nights. TV screen for the football.
In the summer outside picnic tables provide a place in the sun to admire the stunning displays of flowers in boxes and baskets around the walls. The D&P used to be a regular winner of the Bollington in Bloom Pubs category! Village and Cheshire league cricket is played on the Recreation Ground at the rear of the pub.
As well as supporting the local football teams and being a member of the local pool and bar games leagues, the pub has a reputation for its live music. Friday evenings herald the Folk Night (see below).

There’s more to samba and other Brazilian rhythms than banging a drum as loud as you can!”
|Finding it:||Located on the main street, the Dog & Partridge is very prominently located about midway between the railway viaduct (Middlewood Way) and the Macclesfield Canal aqueduct, almost opposite the Civic Hall. In the summer just look for a house covered in hanging flower baskets!|
The Dog and Partridge was once managed by Donald Stewart and his wife Stella.
The Dog has hosted the Folk Club on Friday evenings for most of the past four decades, and very popular it is too. For about 38 of those years the club was managed by Bollington boy Arthur Wakefield. He retired in 2012. Sadly, Arthur passed away on 21st May 2020 after suffering from dementia. The Folk Club continues of course with Peter Wood in charge, once the Covid-19 restrictions are behind us. The club website.
