History
Over time there were actually two foundries. The first was in Foundry Street – the roofless building in the bottom right of the picture. The second was the larger building a very short distance away in John Street – the industrial building with four windows in the middle of the picture.
In the early 20thC the first Bollington Imperial Picture Palace (cinema to you and me) was opened in Foundry Street in the original foundry building. When the new cinema was built at Bridgend, Palmerston Street, the Imperial became a body shop making ambulances. It remains a vehicle body repair shop today. The newer foundry in John Street was demolished and that area, including some of the allotments, has been redeveloped as Dean Court retirement homes. More on the John Street foundry.
