Vine Street

Replacing historic streets: Vine Street, Hope Street, Union Street, The Square

A street of 1970s brick semi-detached and terraced houses, and maisonettes, that replaced the earlier streets (Vine Street, Hope Street, Union Street, known collectively as The Square) which became very run down. The original St John’s School was located in the first part of the street against the churchyard wall – just off the left side of the picture. Most properties, including all those on the left of the picture, back onto St John’s churchyard.

Approach off Church Street.

Nearest shops – Palmerston Street.

Nearest pubs – The TurnersCotton Tree in Ingersley Road.

Council Ward – Central.

There is a ginnel between the houses and Shrigley Court providing quicker pedestrian access to Palmerston Street.
