Notes for Dr John COOPE MBE

Dr John, as he was known, was not only noted for his medical skills but also as the leader of the social development of Bollington from the 1960s to 2000. He created the Bollington Festivals, the first of which was in 1964, he inspired the creation of more than 20 groups including Bollington Civic Society, Festival Players, Festival Choir and Bollington Band. Music was his great interest and he learned to conduct, and with great success including in competition at the Welsh Eisteddfod. See the web link for his obituary.

Renowned researcher and expert on HRT; established a teaching clinic on women's health; member of WHO committee on Research on the Menopause; editor Journal of the British Menopause Society (1994-1997) and founder member of its council; member Macclesfield Osteoporosis Prevention Group.
