Notes for John COOPE MBE Dr John, as he was known, was not only noted for his medical skills but also as the leader of the social development of Bollington from the 1960s to 2000. He created the Bollington Festivals, the first of which was in 1964, he inspired the creation of more than 20 groups including Bollington Civic Society, Festival Players, Festival Choir and re-established Bollington Brass Band. Music was his great interest and he learned to conduct, and with great success including, for many years, in competition at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod. See the web link for his obituary.
